Ambrosia
and Nectar: Women in Baroque England
Though
English women before the Restoration often resigned themselves
to being nothing more than distinguished aristocrats, many
were in fact highly accomplished singers. Years later,
the
next generation of women took to the London stage for productions
by William Lawes and Henry Purcell. Carolyn Sampson,
star of the BEMF Psyché, pairs with duo
partner
Elizabeth Kenny of Les Arts Florissants
for a sampling of songs from these private and public traditions.
