Ambrosia and Nectar: Women in Baroque England

Though English women before the Restoration often resigned themselves to being nothing more than distinguished aristocrats, many were in fact highly accomplished singers. Years later, the next generation of women took to the London stage for productions by William Lawes and Henry Purcell. Carolyn Sampson, star of the BEMF Psyché, pairs with duo partner Elizabeth Kenny of Les Arts Florissants for a sampling of songs from these private and public traditions.
