In 1660,
the explosion of cultural bounty accompanying the Restoration
of the English monarchy coincided with the birth of England’s
greatest musical genius: Henry Purcell. From the latest French
dances to the newest extravagances of Italian vocal music,
Tragicomedia and Friends welcome you to all
the pleasures that Purcell and his contemporaries enjoyed
following King Charles II’s return to his notoriously
pleasure-drunk court.
