The Phoenix Rising: The Carnegie UK Trust and the revival of Tudor church music
The twelve young voices of Stile Antico are rapidly emerging as one of the most technically polished and stunningly beautiful Renaissance vocal ensembles in the world, with accolades and ovations from Boston to Lebanon and all points in between. They return to the BEMF stage with a program honoring the legacy of the Carnegie UK Trust, which is celebrating its centenary in 2013. From 1922 to 1929, the trust funded the publication of a ten-volume collection of Tudor church music, unearthing a wealth of extraordinary music that languished unperformed for centuries. Stile Antico draws entirely from these publications to create a program of exquisite beauty, featuring works by Byrd, Tallis, Gibbons, Taverner, White, Morley, and Weelkes.
