directed by Matthias Maute

La Follia and the Gypsies

Vibrantly led by recorder virtuoso Matthias Maute, this energetic ensemble brings its singular style to an innovative program of music from Uhrovska zbierka, a collection from the country now known as Slovakia. Capturing the spirit of the times with historical replicas of gypsy instruments, this lively program features music by Ortiz, Schmelzer, Uccellini, Salamone Rossi, and Vivaldi, all of whom were inspired by the great folk traditions of the nomadic gypsies.

“At the festival’s center were astounding performances by Ensemble Caprice…the audience [sat] silently at the conclusion, unwilling to break the spell the music has created.”American Recorder Magazine
