Dietrich Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri

During this 300th anniversary year of the death of Dietrich Buxtehude, BEMF presents a special performance of his Membra Jesu Nostri with a spectacular lineup of North American singers and instrumentalists. A stunning cycle of seven cantatas based on a 13th-century poem by Arnulf of Louvain, each movement of this touching work is addressed to a different part of Christ’s crucified body: feet, knees, hands, side, chest, heart, and head.

“[Les Voix Humaines] have achieved the “art of courtly conversation” so highly prized in the 17th and 18th centuries: they play in perfect symbiosis, their bass viols goading, echoing and responding to each other like twin instruments.” ResMusica
