Poetry in Music for the Virgin Mary
The crystalline voices of The
Tallis Scholars have introduced thousands of music lovers
to the great masterworks and new discoveries of the
Renaissance era for over 30 years. Their annual appearance
on the BEMF stage brings together these two traditions
with Jean Lhéritier’s striking Nigra
sum alongside Palestrina’s parody mass of the same
piece, plus works by Crecquillon, Mouton, Gallus, and
Josquin extolling the virtues of the Virgin Mary.
“Here
was drama, complex musical patterns and sheer
beauty of sound.” — The Liverpool
