La Folia

A rapturous 16th-century Spanish dance, “La Folia” whipped dancers into a state of ecstasy that also allowed musicians to display their own brand of virtuosity. Praised for their outstanding and entertaining performances, the members of Teatro Lirico bring their unique style to “La Folia” with music by Monteverdi, Farina, Hidalgo, and Marini based on their 2006 New York Times “Pick of the Year” recording, hailed as “an instant ‘desert island’ release.”

“Teatro Lirico offer[s] an extended fantasy based on free association …in the improvised pieces, the musicians work together with the unity of purpose a listener expects of a good jazz ensemble.”
