Philippe Pierlot, viola da gamba
Master and Student
Two of the world’s finest soloists—Philippe Pierlot, in a back-by- popular-demand appearance, and Lorenzo Ghielmi in his BEMF début—come together on the BEMF concert stage for a captivating recital exploring the fascinating relationship between teacher and apprentice. Their program traces the pedagogical lineage of some of the Baroque’s greatest proponents of the viola da gamba and keyboard, including Hotman, Sainte- Colombe, Marais, Böhm, J. S. Bach, and Abel. A special prologue entitled Suzanne un jour (“Suzanne and the old men”), by the rarely performed Spanish Baroque composer Bartolomé de Selma y Salaverde, will introduce this midafternoon concert.
Bartolomeo Selma y Salaverde: Susanna passeggiata
"The density of thought and refined musicality make Pierlot more than a performer: a true creator."
