Widely regarded as the first great opera, Monteverdi’s Orfeo comes to life in an exquisite production from the GRAMMY Award–winning BEMF Chamber Opera Series. Breathtaking in its beauty and variety, this is a magical musical entertainment not to be missed!

"A luminous production that I'll savor in my memory for a long time to come." -The Hub Review

For over a decade, BEMF has followed its triumphant Festival weeks with a weekend of performances in the Berkshires at the acoustically superb and visually dazzling Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. In continuous operation for over a century as a vaudeville theater and then as a glorious movie palace, the Mahaiwe Theater will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its 2005 restoration as one of the premiere live performance venues in western Massachusetts.

In 2015, BEMF is proud to bring two different programs to music lovers in the Berkshires one week after the conclusion of the June 2015 Festival in Boston. The BEMF Vocal and Chamber Ensembles will present a concert performance of Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 conducted by Stephen Stubbs on Saturday, June 20, followed by BEMF’s acclaimed chamber opera production of Monteverdi’s Orfeo on Sunday, June 21. These performances are made possible by the generous support of the Berkshire Friends of BEMF, whose objective is to foster and promote BEMF’s performing presence in western Massachusetts.
